Report: Winter Field Day 2019

Five ACARA members participated in Winter Field Day 2019 at the recently updated amateur radio station at the Red Cross of Southeastern Ohio chapterhouse in Athens on Saturday, January 26.

Over a period of about seven hours, a total of 61 contacts were made by Josh Cash, KE8EAS; Eric McFadden, WD8RIF; and Jeff Slattery, N8SUZ. Josh and Eric operated CW and Jeff operated SSB. Using the recently installed Hustler 5-BTV 10/15/20/40/80m rooftop-mounted vertical antenna and a 40m end-fed Zepp wire antenna, QSOs were made on 20m, 40m, and 80m with stations all over the continental U.S., as well as with stations in Canada, France, and Venezuela,

ACARA members who participated but did not operate were Bob Moore, KC8KSM, and Miles McFadden, KD8KNC.

The club competed in the “Indoor” class and finished with a score of 2,610 points, which includes a 1,500-point bonus for operating away from home.
