Drew McDaniel, W8MHV, will be leading the club construction project to build 20-meter / 40-meter trap dipole antennas at 2pm on Sunday, January 21 at the Red Cross of Southeastern Ohio, 100 South May Avenue, Athens.
Drew will be providing at no charge the trap kits, insulators, and wire for participants to build the two-band trap dipoles. The builders will need to provide their own coaxial cable feedline before deploying their dipoles for use but the builders do NOT need to bring the coax to the build session.
For this project, Drew chose very high quality 100-watt trap kits from SOTABeams in England. Some builders might wish to visit the SOTABeams website (https://www.sotabeams.co.uk/hf-antenna-traps-kit-pair/) before Sunday’s build and familiarize themselves with the very simple assembly instructions; we will be building the traps for 14.0MHz.
A few soldering stations and other small tools will be available at the build but if builders have their own soldering station, solder, and wire cutters, they may bring them to the build.
Drew will be providing simple “dogbone” insulators to serve as the center insulator and feedpoint; if builders have their own center insulator they’d prefer to use, they are invited to bring them to the build.
Based on responses to the announcements last year, Drew has materials for the following members:
