Report: ARRL Field Day 2026

A big thank you to everyone who showed up to help (and operate) this year for ARRL Summer Field Day! While I don’t have the official points count, I wanted to give a preliminary update:

  • QSO’s
    • Stations using the K8V callsign (CW/Voice/Digital) including the VHF/UHF 6M station made 1038 contacts. This represents a 76% increase over last year’s 590 points.
    • Stations using the W8UKE callsign (GOTA) made 142 contacts. This represents a 25% increase from last years 114.
  • Transmitters
    • In the class of 2F, we operated the club’s IC-7610 as the voice/CW station, and Paul Schulz’s IC-7300 as the dedicated digital station.
    • For our free VHF/UHF station we operated Jeff Slattery’s IC-7300.
    • For our bonus Get on the Air (GOTA) station, we operated Bob Schulz’s IC-7300.
  • Antennas
    • Paul Schulz’s BuddiHEX on the Athens County EMA’s mobile radio tower.
    • The club’s Hustler 5BTV rooftop antenna
    • The club’s new Chameleon End-Fed
    • The club’s 40m end fed
    • Ben Brewster’s homebrew 80-60-40-30-20 linked dipole
    • John McCutcheon’s 2 element 6m beam.

All K8V stations were successfully logging to a central server using N3FJP ARRL Field Day Contest Logger over a temporary WiFi network. The GOTA station (W8UKE) logged to a separate instance of N3FJP ARRL Field Day Contest Logger. Our new band pass filters, coupled with choked USB cables made by Paul Schulz resulted in significantly less QRM between stations and a significantly smoother process throughout the evening as compared to last year.

Again, thank you all for your help and support for a successful field day!

— Ben Brewster (KF8DES / WSGU671)
