Five ACARA members participated in Winter Field Day 2019 at the recently updated amateur radio station at the Red Cross of Southeastern Ohio chapterhouse in Athens on Saturday, January 26. Over a period of about seven hours, a total of 61 contacts were made by Josh Cash, KE8EAS; Eric McFadden, WD8RIF; and Jeff Slattery, N8SUZ. Josh and Eric operated CW and Jeff operated SSB. Using the recently installed Hustler 5-BTV 10/15/20/40/80m rooftop-mounted vertical antenna and a 40m end-fed Zepp wire . . .
The NC8V Memorial Trophy is presented annually to the ACARA member with the highest score in the ARRL 10-Meter Contest in recognition of the life and accomplishments of past-member John Cornwell, NC8V (SK). Four ACARA members participated in the 2018 ARRL 10-Meter Contest and were, therefore, in the running for the coveted NC8V Memorial Trophy: Carl Denbow, N8VZ, was time-limited but made 15 QSOs for a score of 270 points; Eric McFadden, WD8RIF, managed 25 QSOs for a score of 900 points; . . .
The ACARA Holiday Dinner is Tuesday, December 18! The ACARA’s Holiday Dinner is this coming Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at Lui Lui Restaurant. The eleventh running of the Ohio State Parks on the Air (OSPOTA) event is this Saturday, September 8. OSPOTA is a low-pressure, fun, field event, the goal of which is to work stations in as many Ohio State Parks as one can. This is a HF-only, SSB-only event and is a perfect opportunity for newer hams or those without much experience on HF to “get their feet wet”. Members of the ACARA will be activating three State Parks this year. . . .
